Last week, the Apper team conducted their first ever webinar in partnership with QBO Philippines. The WORQSHOP, held on June 10, 2020 via Zoom was attended by over 30 startup founders who wanted to learn more about the cloud and how this technology can help streamline their operations. Our founders, Diwa del Mundo and Patrick Zulueta shared their expertise as they covered the topic on Mastering the Cloud.
With the transition to “the new normal”, attendees got a first-hand lecture on how to maximize cloud adoption to not only transform their digital operations but help them adapt to the current global situation brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The session started with a brief introduction by QBO, along with their projects and initiatives to help and grow the local startup community. The webinar officially started with an introduction of cloud computing along with its business application led by Apper’s co-founder and Director of Marketing, Patrick Zulueta. Pat gave deep insight on the value proposition of cloud computing and benefits for businesses.
After a quick Q&A and some freebies and goodies from the Apper team, co-founder and Chief Cloud Architect, Diwa del Mundo led the discussion on his cloud journey and how the cloud has evolved over the years.
Diwa shared how the cloud has existed for quite some time, as well as his personal journey with the cloud since 2010. His cloud experience started by leveraging AWS: Amazon EC2, Amazon S3, and AWS Elastic Transcoder for video processing with Viki.com and utilized Google “Cloud” Widevine technology for DRM and video content protection.
In 2014, Diwa started his cloud certification journey. According to him, the cloud is more than just on-demand virtual servers and storage. He saw that certification is a way to enable team members to deliver faster. Currently, Diwa has 10 cloud certifications under his belt, as an AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional, and completed all Associate certifications. He also completed Specialty certifications for Machine Learning, Database, and Security. As cloud services are getting more and more complex, specialized tracks are essential to innovate.
Diwa also helped build impactful and revenue generating payment services on top of AWS services during his time with Paymaya from 2014-2015. He leveraged AWS security, serverless, and other application services to deliver software faster. His focus on velocity, team enablement, and automation resulted in increased business for the company.
With cloud services getting more acceptance and slowly becoming the ‘new normal’ for most businesses, Diwa closed the session with key takeaways on digital innovation as well as some tips for startup founders who would wish to migrate to the cloud. Attendees gave great insight and feedback throughout the discussion as Diwa shared best practices and practical advice for startup founders. The 3-hour session ended with high spirits as attendees gained new knowledge on cloud services. A follow-up FEEDBAQ session will be held on June 18, 2020 via Zoom where attendees can consult with Apper’s coaches and founders on how to adapt cloud services for their business.
